OUR STORY
Built on Experience, Integrity, and doing things the right way.

Meet MICHAEL sowl
My name is Michael Sowl, and I’ve been in construction since 2003. Long before I ever thought about leading a construction company, I just wanted to build my own home someday. That dream is what pulled me into this industry in the first place. I started out on a concrete crew during construction of an ethanol plant in Columbus, Nebraska. From there, I moved into operating heavy equipment, then worked alongside millwright teams installing motors, conveyors, and mechanical systems.
I quickly learned that construction isn’t just labor it’s coordination, sequencing, planning, and problem solving before issues become problems. Before construction, I served in the United States Navy as an Electronic Technician during the Iraqi War, working with precision systems and calibration equipment. That experience taught me something simple: you don’t cut corners when accuracy matters, and I never forgot that.
I joined KB Nelson Construction in 2017. The company was originally founded in 1982 by Kim Nelson, and I came in not to coast but to work. By 2019, I was trusted to manage the company. On July 1st, 2026, I became President of KB Nelson Construction, a company with over 40 years of history in Wyoming and a reputation built on trust, communication, and craftsmanship.
Over the years, I’ve learned many lessons, some the hard way. Early on, I trusted the wrong people and lost money on projects because of it. Those experiences shaped how we operate today: clear expectations, defined scopes, and no shortcuts. At KB Nelson Construction, we focus on communication, honesty, craftsmanship, and making the process easier for homeowners. We coordinate with all trades and provide a single point of contact so clients aren’t chasing answers across multiple companies.
We also operate Cabin Creek Cabinetry in-house, allowing us to control quality from design through finish work.
Outside of work, I’m a husband, father, and grandfather. My family and my community are central to my life, and I take pride in building things that last in the place I call home. At the end of the day, I want every client to feel confident, informed, and taken care of from start to finish.
